LAUSANNE,
February 7, 2018 - The latest edition of the AIPS Magazine is now available
online. Issue VI/2017 presents the AIPS
Sport Media Awards 2018, the new platform for the celebration of sport storytellers and development
of sport media excellence around the globe. The Awards seek to become the most
significant international accolade across every platform for achievement in
sport storytelling. The event will be annual and the first edition of the Awards
ceremony will be organized in January 2019.
The
issue also focuses on the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, AIPS Athletes
of the Year and the case of USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.
The
two Koreas united at PyeongChang 2018 Athletes from the National Olympic Committee of DPRK will
compete in Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, Cross Country Skiing and
Alpine Skiing – and in a Unified Women’s Hockey Team. The two Koreas will also
march together under one flag during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter
Games in PyeongChang in the South.
The Olympic family has
failed to protect its own sheds light on the
horrifying story of USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar who was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison for
abusing young female gymnasts entrusted to his care. He was convicted for molesting seven young women,
sexually assaulting them under the guise of medical treatments.
Mitchell Obi new re-elected President of AIPS Africa Kenya’s Mitchell Obi was
re-elected new president during the AIPS Africa Congress that took place in Nairobi,
Kenya from 16-19 December with the participation of 22 countries. Mourad Moutaoukil
of Morocco
and William Dodzi Ezah from Ghana were elected as Secretary General
and First Vice-president respectively.
Tennis rules the AIPS Athletes of the Year Roger Federer and
Serena Williams were voted AIPS male and female athletes of the year respectively
when 517 journalists from 112 countries voted for the 2017 champions, the most international poll yet by the
International Sports Press Association (AIPS).
