LAUSANNE, September 6, 2021 –The Covid effect still affects the world and therefore also sport. The work of sport journalists this year has been difficult again and, given that we have received many requests in this sense, the Organizing Committee of the AIPS Sport Media Awards has decided to extend the submissions by one month, until November 4th 2021.

In conclusion, all submissions first published or broadcast since November 10, 2020, until November 4, 2021 will be accepted for this fourth edition of the AIPS Sport Media Awards.

Since opening the submission period for the fourth edition, in May, the AIPS Sport Media Awards have already received works from 73 countries coming from the five continents, more than in the previous three editions at this same stage.

As we have explained at the beginning many colleagues contacted AIPS asking for an extension, given the difficulties they are still facing, a situation that AIPS has been actively monitoring and reporting in its website.

“In many countries, sport activity has returned to almost normal, but journalists are still facing several restrictions and limited posts. We are following this closely and we want to show a gesture to our colleagues. We cannot leave them alone,” said AIPS president Gianni Merlo.

The first two editions of the AIPS Sport Media Awards accepted submissions until early October, and had their ceremony in late January or early February. Colleagues had the chance of submitting during 6 months, with a participation window of 12 months.

Following last year’s extension due to the coronavirus pandemic, the submitting period of the fourth edition was going to be the shortest since the creation of the Awards, with 5 months for submitting and 10 months and 3 weeks for publication. This extension was important to guarantee the proper reflection of a full year of work, and at the same time also sets the calendar for the future editions, from November to November.

Once all submissions are received and screened, the five voting stages will take place in December, January and February, with 41 professionals involved (a panel of 6 specialists, 24 Executive Committee members and 12 members of the Jury).

Ceremony will take place in March-April, in a venue still to be confirmed, following the evolution of the pandemic.

As usual, all entrants that have already submitted will also have the opportunity to change their submissions until the final deadline.
