AIPS Sport Media Awards announce the Continental Rankings 2023 edition

As it happened every year after the gala ceremony, the AIPS Sport Media Awards are ready to announce the Continental Rankings of the 2023 edition.

“The Continental Rankings are a way of showing our appreciation to the best performers on each continent, and also act as a benchmark on a regional level, in which working conditions can be more aligned to a similar reality,” says AIPS President Gianni Merlo.

HOW IT’S DONE The Continental Rankings are drawn considering all the existing data processed in the five voting stages of the competition: more than 20,000 ratings for the first phase, plus the votes of the EC (longlist) and the Jury (shortlist, Top 10 and final).

For the 2023 edition, a total number of 1887 submissions from 140 countries were received. The Continental Rankings take into account the nationality of the entrants, not the media in which their works was published.

SELECTION AND TIES Naturally, the overall winners of this edition will also topple the Continental table. As for the rest, the ones with more votes in the last stage will be in the highest position.

If two submissions received the same number of votes by the Jury, and the same number of votes in the previous stage, they will be on the same place.  

If two or more people with different nationalities worked on the same story, we take into account the details of the one that submitted the story, according to the data received in the registration process. Please note that some rankings might contain more than 10 works (in case of ties) or less (in case of not receiving enough works for that category).

ENCOURAGEMENT We believe the continental rankings are another impulse to the profession, celebrating the best storytellers on a regional level. We encourage the national associations of each country to value, acknowledge and pay tribute to the best performers on each country. Let this be an additional motivation to all the journalists, photographers and videographers that have submitted their valuable work.

The 2023 edition is over, but the celebration of our profession continues.

Starting from today, in alphabetical order by continent, we will announce the categories belonging to one continent at a time.
