The wait is over: The second edition of the AIPS Sport Media Awards launched
LAUSANNE, April 16, 2019 - From today, the AIPS Sport Media Awards will be accepting submissions for their second edition.
All that you have to do is check www.aipsawards.com, create a profile and submit your work by following the instructions. You can also follow us on social media on Twitter, Instagram (@aipsawards) and Facebook.
The website already has its versions in Spanish, French, Italian and Chinese. More languages are on the way.
NEW CATEGORIES - Revamped and covering more areas of expertise, the 2019 edition comes with the two inaugural categories Young Reporter Under 30 and Short Video Feature.
If the first edition included submissions from 119 countries, we are hoping to get even more now, with the addition of two categories that broaden the horizons of younger generations.
The final ceremony will take place in February 2020.
DATES - All submissions must be published between September 18, 2018, and October 7, 2019. Only articles, videos and audios broadcast or published between those dates will be valid.
The AIPS Sport Media Awards is the global prize for sports journalists. It encourages them to send up to two submissions per person, for free, and offers more than 100,000 US Dollars in prizes.
PRIZES - Winners of each category claim a US$ 8,000 cheque, while second and third receive 3,000 and 2,000, respectively.
Young Reporter Under 30 winners will receive a unique prize: a scholarship in a major international sporting event, with all expenses, travel ticket and accommodation covered.

PHOTOGRAPHY SPORT ACTION
An image that depicts a moment of excellence or athletic skill from a particular sporting event.
PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO
A portfolio of at least three but no more than five sports photos. These photos may be from the same sport or same event, or they may be from different events and different sports.
WRITING BEST COLUMN
A piece that offers a considered and knowledgeable opinion, demonstrates relevance, authority, understanding of and insight into the issue and shows a flair for language. Opinion pieces, blogs, investigations and editorial articles fit in this category.
BEST COLOUR PIECE
A story that demonstrates innovation, thinking, research and is well written with passion and flair, best capturing the emotion of an occasion in and around the sporting world: reportage, features, chronicles and interviews can fit in this category.
AUDIO
A submission that is either a radio report, podcast, piece of commentary or other audio submission that is not only compelling but also displays some technical innovation and quality research.
The video categories are dedicated to those who, on traditional or new media platforms, harness the moving image in sport, from the cameraman to the video web caster, to the producer or production team represented by one individual covering a sport event.
VIDEO ATHLETE PROFILE
A video that portrays a captivating, in-depth image of an athlete or a prominent and relevant sport figure.
VIDEO DOCUMENTARY
A video that tells a compelling and revealing story about any aspect of the sport world, showing qualitative research and editorial input combined with quality filmmaking.
VIDEO SHORT FEATURE
A video no longer than 10 minutes in length on any sporting subject with strong storytelling, innovative filming and journalistic relevance.
YOUNG REPORTER UNDER 30
The newly created Young Reporter category is open to professionals that are under 30 (born on or after January 1, 1990). AIPS has invested in the future of sport journalism by creating the respected AIPS Young Reporters Programmes, that set a high quality reporting standard for UEFA, FIFA, FINA and IAAF events since 2011. To give an Award to the younger generations is another step in the same direction and underlines AIPS efforts to offer a better future in this profession. Each of the winners will receive a career-boost opportunity: a scholarship in a major international sports event.
