Whenever it rains, Cologne Rugby Park is usually in a very horrible state, hence its nickname “Kartoffelacker”, which means ‘potato field’. It is on one of such occasions in the first week of December 2017 that Nobert Schmidt captures “Mud fight” during a lower regional league match involving Cologne’s men’s second team. In spite of the heavy rain that came with a bit of snow, the match went on in the mud, such that after ten minutes both teams were soaked beyond recognition. The bad whether conditions grew worse in the course of the game but the teams delivered an impressive rugby match.
