He is the most iconic German Football Star. Franz Beckenbauer, born 1945 in Munich, became a beloved football player. Playing for Bayern Munich he fascinated his fans with his unique and elegant style to play football. At age 20 he entered his first World Cup, in 1974 he won the World Championship with the German Team on home soil. The son of a working class family became a global figure, playing for New York Cosmos in the late 70s. After the end of his career as a player he was asked to help the National Team. In 1990 he became one of the few men who won the World Championships both as a player and as a coach. 2006 he was head of the Organizing Committee of the WCH in Germany and led the tournament to a great success. Almost 10 years after the "Sommermärchen 2006" allegations of financial irregularities during the application process hit Beckenbauer who withdrew more and more from the public. He died on January 7, 2024.
