RAMOS WAS RIGHT IN SERENA’S CONTROVERSY! OSAKA, WHAT A CHAMPION!
  • Ubaldo Scanagatta / Ubitennis.com

The 2018 US Open Women's Singles final between Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams had a great impact on sports news around the world. Not just for the upset caused by eventual winner Osaka, who became the first Japanese player ever to win a Slam, but also because of the three official warnings the umpire, Carlos Ramos, inflicted on heavy favourite Serena Williams. Serena’s outbursts afterwards raised many eyebrows as she, among other things, accused the umpire of sexism. Ubaldo Scanagatta takes the umpire’s defense arguing that Ramos may just have been a little finicky in his first warning, but could not possibly avoid sanctioning the next two. He adds that Osaka deserved to win and did not deserve the ungenerous whistles of the partisan crowd.
