172 Runners started this ultramarathon - 21 of them never came back

On May 22, 2021, 172 racers started their 100k through the stark and steep landscape of the Yellow River Stone Forest in China's Gansu Province. Among them, 21, including some of the best trail runners in the world, died. Wufei Yu (China) and Will Ford (USA) talked to survivors, researched the weather patterns at the race and wrote a feature about what happened before, during and after the tragedy.
