YOUNG REPORTERS WRITING / Zimbabwe’s girl footballers against teen pregnancy - Evening Standard
- Farai Shawn Matiashe (Zimbabwe)
This is a solution focused based story about young girls in Zimbabwe's second-largest city of Bulawayo who have defied all the odds to become champions in soccer. The sport has proven to be a safe haven for these young girls as it is protecting them from vices that face teenagers in densely populated suburbs including drug abuse, unwanted pregnancies and child marriages. Soccer keeps the girls busy and safe from boys in the area. Most of the girls want to make a career in football as well as other courses. Tafadzwa Ufumeli made the photographs.
