Investigative mention / The ghost VIP box in the F1 Mexican GP - Medio Tiempo
  • Jonathan Collazo (Mexico)

More than 300,000 seats are being sold for the Mexican Grand Prix, and no matter how expensive they are, none include parking, forcing fans to arrive by public or private transportation. However, there is one building with a privileged view, separated only by a fence from the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, which, at least in 2022 and 2023, was transformed and commercially operated as a VIP suites box for watching Formula 1. In addition to offering gourmet food and all-inclusive drinks, it also served as the only parking lot around the 92 hectares that make up the circuit. This property, owned by the Mexican Sports Confederation (Codeme), a civil association that for many years was the highest governing body of sports in the country, was operated by an external company without any permit for public events, offering each seat between 90,000 pesos ($4,500) and 110,000 pesos ($5,500).
