SPECIAL REPORT, VISUAL & DATA STORY / I don't see you - Masrawy
This investigation reveals the reality of youth centers in Egyptian villages and their suitability for athletes with disabilities, despite previous government promises of inclusion and equal opportunities. While laws guarantee the right of people with disabilities to participate in sports and community activities, their implementation reveals a wide gap between the texts and reality. These young people face daily challenges, ranging from difficulty accessing the centers to a lack of basic facilities and privacy, leading to their disengagement from sports. Through field testimonies and direct observation, the investigation traces the suffering of young people with disabilities in rural Egypt, highlighting the lack of technical and financial support, the weak infrastructure within youth centers, and the neglect of the needs of a group striving to be an active part of the sports community. Meanwhile, village youth centers in the governorates have lost two-thirds of their athletes with disabilities over the past decade, with their numbers declining by 67 percent.
